Kathajagat is an initiative from Abja Creations, a literary and cultural organization. Originally, they intended to bring a huge compilation of Telugu stories (including all forms, styles) in a book form to celebrate A Century of Telugu Stories. That effort did not go as expected due to financial and other reasons. However, with a strong desire to do something for the Telugu story literature, they started compiling Telugu stories and put them online at this web site. This web site gained a wide range of readership from all corners of the world.

They carried the name Kathajagat from the erstwhile effort to their web site and started compiling stories written by contemporary Telugu writers.

The man behind Kathajagat, Kodihalli Muralimohan (the founding Secretary of Abja Creations) also maintains a blog Turupu mukka (the trump card), where he writes, among other things, about new additions to Kathajagat.
