2nd International Telugu Internet Conference (ITIC 2012)

The second International Telugu Internet Conference (ITIC 2012) is going to take place from 2nd to 4th of November 2012 in GITAM University, Vishakhapatnam. The theme of this conference is “development of Telugu in the age of internet”. The Department of Information Technology & Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh conducts this annual conference in association with Global Internet Forum for Telugu (GIFT), SiliconAndhra.

e-Telugu workshop for Web Developers (Hyderabad, April 15)

e-Telugu, a non-profit organization striving to promote Telugu on computers and the web, is organizing a workshop for web developers on Building Telugu Websites. The workshop will last about 2 hours and covers various topics like Unicode, conveying language information in HTTP and HTML, typing in Telugu, using Telugu fonts with @font-face CSS rule, and Telugu in mobiles.

SiliconAndhra releases 3 new Telugu Unicode fonts

Update: The link below now also includes 15 new Telugu Unicode fonts released in ITIC 2012.

On the eve of International Mother Language Day (Feb 21), SiliconAndhra, in association with the IT Department of Government of Andhra Pradesh, released 3 free Telugu Unicode fonts and also launched a website called Telugu Vijavam about technical resources for Telugu computing.

Telugu Baata — a Walk for Telugu

Telugu Baata is an event where enthusiasts walk for Telugu. This is being organized by e-Telugu, an organization working for promotion of Telugu on computers and internet.

This year, the walk in Hyderabad is going to take place on 28th of August at 9.00 am. The walk will start at Telugu Lalitha Kalaathoranam and continue up to Basheer Bagh Press Club. There will be a press conference on the topic of Telugu Bhashaki Adunika hoada (Modern status to Telugu language) at the Press Club.

Two upcoming conferences that have something for Telugu, Unicode, Localization:

35th Internationalization & Unicode Conference is happening in Santa Clara, CA, USA on the days of October 17 – 19, 2011. It has interesting tutorials and presentations on topics like internationalization, localization issues, multilingual fonts, etc. You can see more details on the program details page.

2nd World Telugu Writers Conference is happening in Vijayawada, India on the days of August 13 – 15, 2011. Krishna District Telugu Writers Association is conducting this conference. Please see the invite and more details.

Symposium on Telugu Computing — April 16, Hyderabad

SiliconAndhra (a Telugu literary and cultural organization), in association with Government of Andhra Pradesh, is organizing a one-day symposium in Hyderabad about Telugu computing. This is a brainstorming session to assess and take stock of the current state of affairs in the use of Telugu in Internet and Information Technology.

There are many people and organizations are working in the areas of Telugu computing. It will be helpful to get all the interested parties together and talk about the current status and discuss future direction and find opportunities for collaboration.

e-Telugu stall in 23rd Hyderabad Book Fair

e-Telugu, an organization working for Telugu on the web, is operating a stall (Stall No. D, next to Eenadu stall) in the 23rd Hyderabad Book Fair.

If you didn’t know yet: 23rd Hyderabad Book Fair is taking place at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad. The timings are 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm for 10 days starting from 19th of December to 28th.
